Healthy Treats: Raw Cacao Antioxidant Balls

Updated: Jul 8, 2019

We are always rotating our menu items to provide children with a range of delicious, healthy and fresh food at DMW. Here's a recipe for one of our favourite snacks - but be warned - you'll find it hard to stop at one! Please note this recipe contains almond meal. As an allergy aware and nut-free service, we use desiccated coconut and oats as an alternative and they are still delicious!

Our Cacao Antioxidant Balls are made using fresh ingredients, prepared by our very own on-site chef.

What You'll Need:

  • 12 medjool dates

  • 1 cup almond meal

  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut (plus 1/3 cup extra for coating)

  • 1/3 cup coconut oil

  • 1/3 cup cacao powder

  • 1 tbls chia seeds

How to Make Them:

  1. Place dates in a bowl of water and stand for one hour until softened. Remove seeds.

  2. Process dates, almond meal, shredded coconut, coconut oil, cacao powder and chia seeds until mixture comes together. Transfer to a bowl and stand for 20 minutes for chia seeds to soften.

  3. Roll the mixture into balls and coat in desiccated coconut.

  4. ENJOY! One, two, or plenty!

Customising the Recipe

Our Raw Cacao Antioxidant Balls are dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan. The great thing about this recipe is that it can be customised to suit your family's individual likes and dietary requirements!

For a twist, try coating our cacao balls in freeze-dried raspberry powder or sesame seeds.
